Why am I always tired?
Fatigue is a very common presenting complaint for functional doctors and it is one with a very large differential diagnosis*.
[* A differential diagnosis is a fancy medical term for a list of conditions, besides the one you are thinking is most likely, that the presenting symptom can also be. For fatigue the differential list is quite large and has some serious conditions that need to be considered and ruled out.]
You may have adrenal fatigue, you may be iron deficient, or it may be something else or it may be both. It’s important to sort this out and rule out some of the more serious conditions. At Ortho Habits we see various underlying causes of fatigue:
Aneamia, low iron and low vitamin B12
Malnutirtion and nutrient deficiencies (for instance NAD depleted)
Heart or lung disease (e.g. COPD, CHF)
Infections, whether it be viruses (EBV, etc.), bacteria (lyme, etc.), or fungal (candida, etc.)
Hormonal issues: adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism, low testosterone, diabetes
Lack of sleep or a poor quality of sleep
Medication side effects and toxicity
Depression
Malignancies (very rare though)
